Notes: Robert K. Godfrey - 19 August 1988 On this date Angus Gholson and I botanized in a small pond-cypress pond in which there was a vast number of plants of Rhynchospora (section Calyptrostylis) that for that group were extraordinarily diminutive. The pond was without any standing water and apparently had been thus for a considerable part of the summer. We were puzzled by their number and their diminutive stature. A few of them were just beginning to produce rhizomes. We recalled having seen such Rhynchospora about the margins of a lake in Marion Co., Fla. several years previously. After puzzling on this, we suddenly noticed that there were a few plants of R. inundata scattered about that were relatively very large stature, stems and leaves relatively coarse, inflorescences relatively very large. From that we convinced ourselves that the diminutive plants were first year plants from seed, seed that probably had been accumulating their for a considerable period of time. The collection number; Godfrey 82814 with Gholson. The upshot being that we dared to identify the earlier collection from Marion Co., Fla. as R. inundata (the collection number: Godfrey 79263).
