Kathy Burks died on June 8, 2006 after a brief battle with cancer. She was a tremendous asset to the botanical community and a good friend. She will be missed. In November 2011 Nelson joined the Florida State University College of Communication faculty as an Assistant Professor for Research in the Institute for Digital Information and Scientific Communication. He specializes in biological collections digitization and workflows for iDigBio (Integrated Digitized Biocollections) and serves on the iDigBio Steering Committee as part of the National Science Foundation's National Resource for Advancing the Digitization of Biological Collections.
