| Notes: | Loran C. Anderson - Punk-tree, Cajeput (Melaleuca sp.)
Vigourous shrub or tree, introduced into Florida in 1906. It tolerates swampy land, and people originally planted it to "dry out the everglades." It is now a bad weed, being both frost-resistant and fire -resistant. Many people have allergenic reactions when the plant is in flower. Maybe we shouldn't fool aroud [around] with "Mother Nature"--unless we really know what we are doing.
(Not the thick, "punky" bark--fireproof when wet. Sarah Braun - {map of Florida on label with Broward County marked with a red dot).
