| Notes: | Charles B. McDonald - Note in reference to P. setaceum FSU 58241, 86682; and P. hydropiperoides FSU 5380, 86506, 86704.
These plants all appear quite similar but in fact the do differ in the detail of ocrea trichome attachment. Plants of P. setceum have surface trichomes that are free at the base even if they do no diverge strongly, and marginal trichomes that arise directly from the edge of the ocrea. Plants of P. hydropiperoides have surface trichomes with an adnate base and marginal trichomes that are adnate as well. The trichomes are also generally shorter than in P. setaceum.
Charles McDonald 13 September 1976 Although the statement below is generally correct, the trichomes of both species are greatly modified when initiated during submergence and based on the totality of characters this specimen belongs w/ P. setaceum.
