Habitat: scattered in thin woods below Pinus taeda, Acer rubrum, Liquidambar, with considerable Myrica cerifera, Lyonia lucida, Gaylussacia, Clethra; fairly damp ground
Plant Morphology Observations: Acorns scarce, although most probably all fallen; lowish shrubs, usually nearly prostrate/. leaning stems, generally below 1 m tall, or the sprouts(where previously mowed, and with younger leaves, more whitened beneath) more erect, vigorous.
